So the answer is no, there is absolutely nothing to back it up other than feelings and butt dynos.

how else do you verify smooth running?

When it comes to overall numbers, almost all the tunes and post header mods produce the same numbers.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and feelings, they are absolutely valid, and may very well be objectively so if we had a way to measure such things.

But claims that it gives more midrange torque, or that it is somehow objectively better than a well tuned decat need to be backed up with data. If that data doesn’t exist then it should be presented as an opinion of smoothness, nothing more.

It is backed up, ask the tuners..

What do we have to gain by sharing information about keeping or getting rid of the cat?

Simply sharing personal experience and what the experts have explained.

Now if you are set on deleting the cat, they did design this along side ryan to try and mitigate some of the smoothness and tq dip issues, ive seen the dyno comparisons, but still not as perfect as leaving the cat on or a full system.

Because you’re making claims as though they are fact without backing them up. Some guy told me is not a valid backup. I think this may be my 4th time saying this, I have no reason to doubt it is true. All I’ve asked for is some actual data to back it up, if I had that I could make an actual informed decision based on facts.

If it’s merely your opinion, then please package it as such and without the argument from authority. Some people only lurk here and look to active users to help provide facts and opinions to aid their own decision making; we should be clear about which is which.

"some guy" isnt just some guy, its the man building the tunes for these bikes for years. And we've said multiple times on this forum to talk to both the tuners, if they have more questions

As we echoed whats been told to us by them... the experts... with the facts to back up their claims.

If you want more "facts" i suggest you go on the FB group and search for all the various dyno threads and pics, as the forum wasnt active back then, so nothing was really posted here

Me experiencing first hand what they were talking about isnt merely an opinion, instead its backing up the facts the experts told me. I tried the cat delete with a little muffler, and it ran the way they said it would, and I removed it.

As it stands now, i think im on #5 exhaust configuration.

you can’t even measure how well an engine runs mid throttle, mid rpm using wfo dyno graphs. How smooth does it run? Does it “chop” the moment you let go of the throttle, does it "flame out" when coming to a stop, stuff like that..

Thats why a tuner’s opinion is more important than some dyno graph.

In fact they are. It's very hard to measure surging sensitivity and midrange/mid throttle response on a dyno. Tuning an engine for top HP is not the toughest job, making an engine buttery smooth at any rev is.
I mean I was only half joking. At the end of the day, numbers on a chart don’t matter. Ultimately what matters is how satisfied you are with how your bike feels to you. That can only be measured by your butt. My FTR doesn’t make the most power an FTR can for sure, but my “dyno” is very happy with the power it does make.

I agree.

Mike and I were the first ones that had their FTR tuned by means of a "remote PV-3 flash" back in 2019. My bike still has the cat, so any new tune I got was for the same config. In the timespan of a year I received a few updates and I am at V5 now, the last one developed for the original Indian ECU software.

And although pure power hasn't changed (at least, it pulls just as hard as it did on tune 1), I did notice a significant difference in surging (absence thereof), cold/hot starting, smoothness and midrange throttle control/response on every update. For me, V5 is the shizzle. And, yes, that is pure butt-dyno.

Ryan Lloyd benched flashed my ECU and I can’t start to tell you how great this bike rides now it’s like a completely different bike I never had any issues but the cold start and stalling until it gets warm but I can start it right up on a 37 degrees out side temp and take off with no problem and feels like it pulls from the bottom stronger, just can’t say enough about his ( Lloyd ) work

Has anyone who is based in the UK brought a PV3 with secret sauce from Lloydz?
what was your experience like, was it worth it? How much extra costs for import tax and VAT were added to the purchase and delivery cost.
Just become the owner of a 2019 ftr s it’s fitted with a de cat grand national and apart from a occasional cold start stall it runs fine on the standard factory tune( although I only have a 20 year old fzs fazer to compare it too) but I’ve been told I could be doing damage to it if it’s running too lean.Love how it looks and sounds but not at the expense of causing damage. What should I do? leave as is,tune it or return to stock pipe and CAT

I have done the PV3 and secret sauce; while it did improve cold starting and flame outs it was not as good as I had hoped. The bench tune was the hot ticket. I assume in the UK you have similar restrictions to what we have in California but fortunately once you own the bike in California you never get checked again. The cost of the two options is the same and there may be a duty advantage given you are not buying a new part rather sending the ECU you have in for a little modification.

IDK my tune is too good, this thing will wheelie in the first 4 gears no issue at all, I'm sure 5th would too. Actually my only complaint is how much this thing LOVES gas, I mean she drinks like a 1950's housewife....

So, hypothetically speaking, could not an FTR owner purchase a new ECU, have Ryan bench flash it, and then keep the stock ECU should that be necessary in the future? Just asking...
