2022 Exhaust/Header options

Learned a lot from this forum, thanks guys…

For the 22’s, has anyone tried or heard of someone trying to cut the headers prior to the y-pipe and then buying or fabricating a collector/mid-pipe that would enable a 19-21 system to be slid on? I’m tempted… the header tubes individually spec’d at 51mm (basically 2 inches) OD give or take .3mm near the collector and were 107mm wide collectively. So it would basically be a 2 x 2” inlet into whatever size outlet you would want… I think the 19-21 system mid pipes were 51mm/2” mid pipes into the cat but 4” into 2” seems restrictive, if it didn’t have to be that way… idk… maybe the engine likes the back pressure.

I have been pestering Competition Werkes to develop a 19-21 de-cat system and then offer an optional y/mid pipe that would enable 22+ owners to cut the headers and slip on. It would be loud. Had an MT-10 with their kit on it and I loved it. Guy I have been mailing said to check back in spring.

I saw the Salwicki video and I thought that full system looked and sounded great. So far they only have a post-cat slip-on on their website though, and in my opinion it looks much less attractive. I used to live in that town… maybe next time I’m there I’ll poke my head in and see where they’re at with it.

I am hoping the newly released 2023 models have the same exhaust setup as the 2022 models. Which will kick the exhaust manufacturers into gear about making full systems, which should be backwards compatible.

Went for the baffle removal today. Something had to be done! It’s definitely a bit of a PITA but do-able. I had more of a problem with weak exhaust bolts (only 1800 miles and a year old!) than anything else… hence the riveted end cap. Thought I would take some pics through the process so people know what they are getting into. Will post a vid if the forum lets me… it certainly makes a difference and sounds much better. Good enough for now…

Morning all. Just picked up my new FTR R Carbon and want to decat the bike. Sorry if this has already been answered elswhere but here goes...Akrapovic do a titanium header but having read all the posts on here it looks like it won't fit my '22 (changes to alignment at rear cylinder). I'm wondering if anyone has managed to successfully decat a '22 but keep the Akrapovic end cans? I'm also trying to ascertain if Akrapovic do or are going to do a '22 onwards titanium header?

I've had mine just under a year. I also want to delete the cat and keep the blacked Akras. I love the look of them on the bike.
So far I think there are no solutions from manufacturers. May have to find an exhaust fabricator near you.

I have removed the baffles for now and that makes a massive difference

The Zard headers won’t fit, the rear cylinder pipe is different on the 2022, so far only Toce have made the necessary modifications to get a header to fit the 2022. You don’t have to cut up the Akras, just a hole drilled at 8 o’clock and filled by another rubber bung just like the one at 6 o’clock
Are you sure about this? I was looking at a 2022 today and the exhaust tip is different on the Akras (from the 2019-2020 models). I am about to buy one but wanted to know if the hole at 8 O'clock technique works on the 2022 models. Another member on here mentioned that he was going to do this on his 2022 but had the dealer do it for him and noted that on the 2022 they spot weld the baffle as well as the bolt. Can anyone confirm that because if that is the case I may just order a Toce slip-on at the same time as I order my bike becasue I know that sewing machine sound is going to bother me before I get it home.

I am about to buy a 2023 with the Akra exhaust but the end plate doesn’t look the same - Does anyone have a picture of one of 2022-2023 bikes with the baffles removed and if so do you still drill the hole at 8 O’clock?

arobert13: Have you thought about buying the same bike with the standard exhaust and purchasing the Akrapovic low mount slip on exhaust cans separately? The 2019 Akrapovic cans are available new and used all over the internet. Some Indian dealerships still have old stock in inventory (call around). Lots of FTR forum members may have their cans on a shelf in the garage if they replaced their original Akrapovics with aftermarket systems.

Are we sure that this works (the 8 O'clock hole) on the 2023 Carbon? - the end tip on the silencers looks different than on the early Akras. One member even mentioned that the 2023 Carbon no longer uses Akras at all - and they do look somewhat different and have no Akrapovic labeling so it may well be true. I would like confirmation before I start drilling holes in new silencers.

Has anybody any experience with the GRMoto slip-on - it looks great, is a good price, is available within a few days and has a removable baffle and is $100 cheaper than the Toce Slip-on - is there a catch?

According to the Indian Aus website, no - none of the 2023 FTRs come with Akras. https://www.indianmotorcycle.com.au/ftr-r-carbon/
I have no idea how you remove the baffles on the 2023 FTRs, but I DO know that on all the Akras the baffles are removed the exact same way.

In 2023 they removed that option on all bikes. You can still buy them as an accessory though.

Correct - The only FTR sold with the stock Akrapovic exhaust is the Championship Edition Carbon Fiber w/ Racing Graphics. The Akrapovic cans are a $1600 option on all the other models.
