I don't know how long this code has been popping up. I've randomly had the CHK ENG message on the cluster a few times over the years. Always thought it was from putting it in gear with the stand down.

Anyways. Did Google, came back with brake light shorted to ground, but their brake light didn't work. Mine does, sorta.

If I pull the front brake a little bit, brake light comes on. I push the rear brake down what feels like 2 inches before the brake light came on. So I adjusted the rear brake a bit so the light comes on sooner.

I'm not sure I'm using the rear brake when the light comes on. Light only comes on for a split second while engine braking.

Already checked wires for broken or open wires, but have not found anything.

Open circuit.
Shorted to ground.
Shorted to battery.

Those are your 3 variables. Might want to check with the dealer or find it online about the recall.

Can't be shorted, nor open or it would set hard, meaning, not come on then go off. Has to short or become open to set hard.

Battery level is 12.8v for a well charged battery. First thought is to check volts at battery. Can pull down a well charged battery if running and stays on all the time.

Recall was done this past winter. Battery level, whenever I look while riding, is between 12.7-13.4 which is correct.

Checked wires to tail light, from under seat to where it meets with harness. No open wires.

I'm down to either the light itself or idk.

Dealer charges way to much.

Found negative terminal loose. Tightened and brake light no longer flashes.

I'm dumb, thank you
