Ferraiolo1s wife FTR 2022

My wife and I spent the summer following the demo truck around the north east, I wanted a second bike, and I wanted her to decide which one, so I kept having her ride the scouts, chiefs, and ftrs over and over.

I had zero say in which one she picked, as I would have been happy with any of them. To my surprise FTR is what she picked that she felt most comfortable on, with riding position and handling.

Yesterday I got to have a ‘22 by myself in the mountains, since most test rides were on a little course I couldn’t really push it. The new base suspension is surprisingly good, better than the 2019 sachs on the s/rr if I’m being honest. A little fine tuning, and I think it might come a little close to my ohlins. And the lean angle clearance issue has been fixed, no chicken strips, and no header rubbing.

It did stall on my 3 times before riding it, but it’s also fresh off the truck and didn’t do it after, and the 3k rpm surging and choppy throttle is all but gone from the older versions.

Looking forward to playing around with this one.

Do you think the rear shock is simply the s/rr shock with a red spring? How much adjustment does the new front have? Website says "fully" adjustable, but that doesn't mean the same to everyone.

They are obviously still using Sachs stuff, just wondering how much different it is from the gen 1 stuff.

If you want a laugh, look up the price of the non-adjustable 19 base forks and compare to the "fully" adjustable 22 legs. Spoiler: the 19s are more expensive :)

The internal travel of both the front and rear is decreased. And my guess is internal valving is set more for street riding.

the clicks look similar for the 19 and 22 in the owners manual

Were you idling when it happened or in motion? I've probably had 4/5 stalls in my 3,000 miles of owning my '22. Most were at idle, coming off cylinder deactivation it likes to happen but the last couple were at speeds 35-45 while in gear, slight acceleration.

Good man @ferraiolo1 - keenly watching this thread and interested on your feedback/insights on the MY22 FTR.

I had been following the talk of surging and poor throttle on the MY19 bikes.
My '22 doesn't suffer (according to Indian fixed via a number of tweaks).
Good to hear you're somewhat validating this also.

It stalled during initial start up a few times. Also did it when I picked it up today at the dealer. But she is done

Tune may come sooner than later. Still need to put more miles on it.

I set the suspension similarly to the ohlins, but for her weight. You can kinda notice the quickness in turnin with the new steering angle, I also dropped the front one line on the forks.

the cylinder deactivation is a bit odd with the muffler and you can’t turn it off on the base as far as I can tell.

I think there is a way to turn off cylinder deactivation, it's a sub menu via some long presses etc.

I remember reading it in the owners manual.

I hope Mrs. Ferraiolo1 likes her bike. I love the hot pink war bonnet and rim stripes! I would have been tempted to paint match the rear shock spring as well. Fall is here in Pennsylvania so turning off the rear cylinder deactivation is probably a good idea. On hot days in July, August, September it my be a real benefit.

I missed the demo truck at Pitt Cycles on September 14-15. I was looking forward riding the 2022 FTRs and a Challenger - and leading test rides. (Our IMRG was invited to lead test rides) Unfortunately I was in the hospital having more heart surgery. Feeling better now and riding again but heart failure is no fun….
