LloydsTune

Ok, 340 miles later my FTR has been serviced and tuned.
The bike was flashed with Lloydz tune, so what are my impressions?
The return journey was 170miles of which only the last 15 was off the motorway so not a full scenario yet.
But, throttle response; vastly improved. Merest twitch of the throttle the bike leaps forward. It feels like my old Livewire did in Sports mode.
Through town fueling, vastly improved. The surging has gone, almost. But a huge difference to the stock tune.
Smoothness, just much smoother. Doesn’t matter the gear it’s just smoother. It’s much more pleasurable to ride.
Any downsides. Well, mpg seems to have taken a dive but right now that could easily be the fact it was a wet ride there and I was bucking a head wind on the return. But, 1 1/2 tanks to get there and 2 1/4 to return. Down to the weather? I’ll let you know after more time.
Worth the money? It’s a shame that Indian didn’t sell the bike like that, but as they didn’t then for me worth every penny. So how many pennies? Well the Lloydz tune cost me £500 and the bikes 5000mile service done as well I shelled out a little over £900 today plus fuel.
Now, it’s time to replace the tyres. I love the M9RR’s in dry conditions but I have no faith in them in the wet. I am thinking about Michelin Road 6’s but I don’t want to sacrifice the grin the bike gives me in dry conditions with the M9’s.
I’ll be thinking and researching for a week whilst I reload the wallet!
Hope that helps someone.

Hi mate,
I've the Pilot Road 5 and à scratch my cat on corners ... PR6 will be the same or much better maybe.
I hate Metz' because they're dangerous with rain.
I wait my Lloyd's mod too and my Toce exhaust ...

I just did my first lengthy ride today on my Lloydz tuned 2019 as well. Throttle surge still happened a bit in sport mode, but definitely less. Of course it goes away completely if you disable TC / ABS.

Initial start up and idle was vastly improved. My bike used to chug a few seconds to even fire up and then if it was below 60 degrees out it would die a few times. Both cured.

Didn't pay attention to fuel economy since that's not great with this bike anyway. On the Lloydz site it mentions decreased exhaust gas temps but anecdotally I'd say they were the same, if not slightly higher. Getting my exhaust temps down was a big selling point for me.

I still think it's all good and improvements (except for the loss of all the beautiful popping sounds) but it wasn't as crazy transformational as I had hoped. My previous bike's ECU flash was so wild that you would think you were riding a completely different bike.

interesting and very transparent to me. Only thing raising my eyebrow is the tires: I experienced the M9RR as highly capable in wet conditions - and I´m usually THE(!) 100% dry weather rider! After a service at my dealer late spring last year I had no other chance as to ride home according weather reports: 227km - in pouring thunderstorm, which felt close to submerged. So avoiding wet where I can, I´m not the real rain hero anyways - but back then the RR performed outstanding - imho. No sweated underwear, no nervosity, just going as fast as I could to get dry again ...

I've ridden three FTRs, and only one exhibited any really noticeable throttle surge, and that was one of Indian UKs own demonstrator/test fleet (a 100% Carbon). The first FTR I rode was an FTR Sport on a test ride from my local dealer, that was brilliant, no noticeable surging, The second was Indian UKs 100% Carbon with a bit of surging, but IIRC that was only at lower speeds, on an accompanied group test ride. My own FTR Carbon R is great, and I think its smoother than my Ducati Supersport. So could it possibly be predominantly due to setup, as the Sport and my Carbon R were both setup/supplied by the same local dealer? 🤔 Next time I'm at the dealer I'll ask if they do anything specific during setup.

Mine is a Krazy Horse bike.
No idea how they set them up but worth noting that Lloydz specifies smoother operation. How that relates to surging is down to interpretation I guess.

Interestingly, my current FTR isn't afflicted by it all, and I have yet to bench tune it, whereas it endured on the previous bike even post Loydz' tune (to a far lesser degree). I can't stress enough though how much of an all round improvement it made in tandem with the Toce low mount system.

I’ve noticed a significant decrease in surging since getting the tune. It used to be a real pain here in North Wales at 20mph and it’s almost gone completely.

My throttle surge only happens during shifting. As soon as you let the clutch out on up on down (usually only noticeable on downshift) the engine revs up and jolts you forward for a second. The TC light also flashes when this happens so I assume it's related to that. Thus why when disabling TC the issue completely vanishes.

This is what I assume people are talking about when they mention throttle surge, anyway.

ah that's the 'blip' - which is different.
When I talk about throttle surge, i mean if you're sitting at around 3500rpm you feel the engine surging. like it's in the wrong gear and trying to work out whether to go faster or slower.

the 'blip' is a 'safety feature' where the engine revs up to avoid stalling - however it's WAY over the top and some people have been caught out by it badly - I ended up in the wrong lane once on a 25kph corner in 2nd due to the blip'. my Lloydz bench tune deleted it completely

exactly, that's why I´m calling mine a rodeo horse ... ;)

Booked in for new tyres tomorrow. Gone with Michelin Road 6 in the end. Will feedback.
The tune is great, it has taken a few miles to re-learn slow running around town, but it’s getting there. I thought there was an issue yesterday but after talking with the guy at the dealer we think it hasn’t yet learned town work as I left after the tune and promptly rode the next 170miles at motorway speeds (and above - cough!)

no more surging, improved throttle response and smoother - and not worth it?
Each to their own I guess.
Hi edgelett

Did your hubby also get his 2022 tuned?
I'd be interested in knowing how much of a difference it makes to a 2022 as opposed to older bikes which had different mapping.
