Hello, I found a 2020 Indian FTR base model with 101 miles. It was bought new and then stored in a shed. I have been looking for a bike to ride on a daily commute and take some back roads ( many of which are dirt) near my home in Pennsylvania. I can get the bike for $ 7800 plus tax and title. Does this seem like a decent deal, and what concerns would you have? Is the fueling issue that bad for a stock bike? Can the FTR do well on dirt roads? I really like the bike and hope it would work for my application. Thanks to all who reply. * I also forgot to ask, it seems as though mpg is all over the place. If someone were to ride sensibly, what kind of mpg should be expected out of an FTR?*

Since 2020. The fellow has medical issues that keeps him from riding. I did see about 4 bolts on the lower portion of the bike with some corrosion. Looked pretty clean overall though, and it started right up with no issues that I could see.

I've only recently got my FTR, I also had concerns of the much reported fuelling and refuelling troubles, but honestly I don't know what all the fuss is about. I've not yet noticed any major fuelling issue, no surging, etc. As for refuelling, doesn't take significantly longer to fill the tank than any other bike I've owned. Yes I find I have to pause for a second a couple of times whilst filling, but that is it. I don't know if its something that's been improved on newer models and possibly worse on older bikes? As for riding sensibly and MPG, as I'm still running my bike in, and therefore riding sensibly, I'm getting a reported 54 MPG, I rarely expect to achieve that when I can use the full rev range, but it shows that you can.

Edit: As pointed out in a later post the MPG figure must be inaccurate - see: https://www.ftr1200forums.com/threa...w-your-opinions-please.1948/page-2#post-27944

ok cool.
In that case make sure you change all fluids and battery.
As for mileage, i get 220kms per tank on open freeway with cruise control, 160kms in the twisties.

12.1v is way too low, Scrappy. Charge it up.

I'd grab it quick. Bike seems to handle OK in the street. Dirt wise, it will be find for that too.

4yrs with the old gas is one thing. If it lights up, idles, revs, it's not a problem injector wise. Battery is an issue if not charged for those years.

Go $7,600 so as to replace the battery.

If it started right up it has been running recently. Mine NEVER starts on the first poke. Ever. Unless it has been running.

Before or after a tune? I'm still running the crap factory "tune", now with a slip-on that seems to have made it worse....

Riding sensibly, figure on a 150 mile range. Headwinds, high speed; 130.

Bike does just fine on improved dirt roads.

Great on dirt roads! Add a spare gas bottle. Perfect bike for what you need. It’s 4 bikes in one! Bike will do 120 miles per tank.

I've had a few bikes with a shorter tank range, like a Superhawk and CRF450, so it really doesn't bother me on a non-touring machine.

As wallycycle said, on "improved" dirt roads it maybe OK. The travel imho is too short for more. My fuel range on backcountry roads is about close to 200km. The problem is, right then you need a pop-up-gas station inmidst the woods ... so to say, the real world range is far away from 200km.

I have never ever get 54mpg our of my '19 FTR. I get around 45mpg average of mixed riding.
Make sure you're comparing apples with apples on an international forum... Remember that an imperial Gallon is 1.2x US gallons, so 45mpg US would be 54mpg imperial anyway...

You probably have answers to all of your questions now, but to address them:

1/ Does this seem like a decent deal?

Absolutely.

2/ What concerns would you have?

None. Although as has been suggested, change the fluids and the battery (go for a upgrade on the latter).

3/ Is the fueling issue that bad for a stock bike?

Can be - particularly if you are afflicted by cut outs. Best to get a tune.

4/ Can the FTR do well on dirt roads?

Exceptionally. Obviously choice of tyres is significant. If it has the stock DT3s then it'll come into its own, yet these are found wanting on sealed roads.

Questions surrounding mpg have been comprehensively addressed.
