So, I was at my local dealership last week and I noticed in the corner of the showroom a small pile of new-old-stock FTR parts. There was a set of the ProTaper pegs (which I already have), an Akra exhaust pipe and a few other bits. What caught my eye was a set of the carbon fiber tank panels!
I have been after a set of different tank panels because although I love the FTR, I'm not really a "red-bike" kinda guy. Knowing that Indian has been trying to blow out all the FTR parts due to the discontinuation of the model, I asked "are those tank panels are clearance?" The employee replied "yes, they are!" and took them to the counter to get me a price. Parts guy rings them up, and they are $785
I said "can you do a bit better on those?" also mentioning that the "chrome" emblems had some scratches from kicking around on the floor. The answer was "no, that's the price. That's 20% off. Carbon Fiber is very expensive"
Yeah...I know that carbon fiber is expensive, but it's not some brand-new super-duper technology that just came out a few years ago. I not interested in it to make my street bike a few ounces lighter. I just wanted a different color tank. If the price was $500ish I may have bit the bullet and bought them, but $785 is a bit much for the panels.
Oh well, that's my rant for the day.
As an aside, if any one has a set of tank panels that aren't red and don't cost $785, drop me a message!
