I want to remove the db reducer on this exhaust. The end cap is held on with three allen bolts but one looks like a security bolt with a dome in the centre. A security allen key will not fit this bolt as the hole in the key is too small. I may be missing something here but I would like to remove it properly before I reach for the drill......tia.

No need to drill if it's a US spec S&S (EU versions don't have a removable baffle), just remove the 3 cap screws from the end cap (not round the body of the muffler) then gently tap the end cap off. The baffle is sandwiched between the end cap and the main body.

Thanks for the info. I am in Spain so it's European spec. Glad I got this info before the drill came out.
The S&S slip on improves the sound but the improvement ain't worth the €450.
Thanks for saving me the aggravation.

Wow, just tried pulling that end-cap. That's not happening.

I had to use a piece of wood as a chisel/drift to tease the end cap off. It’s supposed to be a tight fit but does come off. Using something like wood means you won’t damage your end cap.

I was shipped the S&S without the db reducer and it was so brutally loud I put the OEM Akrapovics back on.

When I ran my S&S without the DB reducer (but with cat box still on), I would not call it brutally loud at all. I would say it is very similar to the Akras without their baffles in (got that on now)

The catalyst provides a lot of muffling, without the cat the S&S without the db reducer is basically a straight pipe and way too loud for the street.

Even the reducer is a straight-through pipe which is surprising. I was expecting it to be welded shut with a perforated bore.
I'm planning for a Toce header and may weld up the reducer and add holes to taste.

So I took it off and tapped the reducer out from the back. Whoa, way too loud and not in a good way, it's going back in.
I was hoping it would sound like my old Monster, nope.

A little late for a answer haha but when i bought the EU version of the S&S it has a super small DB reducer in it. It looked like a scooter haha. So i found a S&S dealer kit with the special bit to unscrew the bolts.

Look at the EU DB reducer hahaha insane small
aah finally someone from the EU who had the balls to give this a try! can you tell us some more about how the bike sounded after you removed that tiny muffler? did it get insanely more loud or just the right amount? i love the sound of the S&S but am always craving for just a little more volume. also i dont know what the regulations in the netherlands are but would you recon it would still pass inspection like this? also happy new year to everyone!

Hi there,

I see you live in Berlin right?

The S&S without DB killer but with the original CAT gives the bike a deep growl.

It sound so much better then with the DB killer inside
See my post above for the S&S dealer kit. ( special screw bit) to remove the 3 bolts, so you can remove the endcap/db killer and ofcourse install the endcap back on

Here’s a Wetransfer link so you can Watch / hear Some SoundClips

I now ride with the cat, S&S slip on without a DB killer

1 clip is with the HP Corse delete pipe but that was to loud for me

Let me know what you think

Hey Leon, thanks for your reply. very useful clips and neat bike! one final question: the clip of the drive by - is also with the db killer removed? if so, i think it still sounds fairly reasonable. not too loud! will definitely give it a shot and remove the db killer once the temperatures get a little warmer (: thank you again from berlin! Tim

Hi,

The clip is without DB killer.
When you dont rev to much its Nice but when you want you can make noise with this configuration.

Have fun!
