Tank Bag

I have decided that I am going to buy an FTR Sport brand new - as soon as I sell my Speed Triple - (I liked everything about the dealer except the trade that they offered me) - I am an experienced motorcyclist but this will be my first bike that wasn't made in England, Italy or Japan so I am a sponge for information. A tail tidy, removal of the Akra baffles and removal of the silly fairing and replacement with the headlight nacelle will be mods the first week-end - what else to people recommend as a must have mod? I have a question about tank bags. I have a Givi small tank bag with the tanklok system that is just about big enough for a week-end (so long as it doesn't rain) - I really like the bag and the peace of mind that it is not scratching my tank and is so easy to put on and off. However, looking at the location of the filler cap on the FTR I am not sure if I can use it as the bag as it is so close to the seat? Does anyone have any experience of this?

I can't speak for tank bags - as for mods, does the new 2023 Sport come with the gilles levers and rearsets?

lots of people have installed Gilles rearsets and love them (I have Wunderkind on mine), the new sets via Indian look brilliant as do the levers.

I don't think GIVi has a lock ring for the filler cap. MY19 is a normal locked screw off cap.

BUT, I purchased the center console for $35 from Indian and a GIVI metal ring I had and will mount it to the new center console. I seen somebody else do this and they claimed it was solid. I use a GIVI small tank bag on my Multistrada.

How about a tail bag? I don’t want to scratch the faux tank and I never ride my FTR two up. But I like a little storage once in a while. (Nelson-Rigg Trails End Enduro Tail Bag)

I have the same bag, did a similar set-up, didn't think bag size/capacity needed more than two fasteners at the rear, and the front of the mount rests on the top of the "tank" with a little cushion.

Handy set-up...but damn, the bike looks so good completely stripped down, but super impractical. If it don't go in your pockets, it ain't going with ya if you don't have a tank bag. And I despise backpacks.

Im interested to see how that tail top box is set up if you don’t mind. I got a Givi top box laying around which would be great to have mounted.
Hi Mate,
sorry for delay on answer.
My actual tail setup is:
Buyed used;
  • Shad expandable top case "SH59X" coming from second hand market

Sorry, I've some problems to attach images.

Finally got this put together and it works great
I ended up using a 10-32 x 1/2 bolt for the Givi ring.
In the picture I had 10-32 x 3/4, the 1/2 inch works much better

Vibratite the assembly. Installed out of box as is, comes assembled, is not adequate.

Love mine, just be aware. Highly recommend (if you wear stiff sole riding boots they’re nice, if not well… they’re pegs so they are felt) the stippling is aggressive it will tear up normal boots too. I wear plastic track boots idc, just be warned.

Like I said I love them but they’re very aggressively oriented. Can’t just hop on bike wearing my leather boots anymore.

Added puig faring to protect my garmin zumo xt on some Amazon ball mounts.

Chopped and soldered zumo xt harness to the accessory plug for heated grips. (Oxford heated grips are better and run straight to battery so didn’t need the aux plug for OEM grips)

I used a combination of these brackets per the pictures and chrome spacers to lower the gauge cluster a bit, 1/2” or so I forget how much I moved it.

Not sure how good this would look on new gauge cluster though… hmmmm

Sry only pic I have of spacers was trolling max lol

They’re moto gadget glassless mirrors, the XL 180mm version before anyone asks.

The ones with no etching in the glass are mint. The ones with etching have bad plasma coating on the mirror polished aluminum, not good image.

Highly recommend the non etched version glassless mirrors from moto gadget. If you get rippled looking mirrors return and reorder.
