Hey

I have to buy new tires for my -19 FTR 1200 S. I will buy a back tire first and then change my front tire next year. I would like to change from the FTRs original tires to a tire for like a sportsbike.
I dont know anything about tires so I dont know what to buy. Can anyone give me tips on what to buy?

I appreciate any help I can get.

/Mike

Switch to a 160/60 rear tire size and you will have several sport touring type options. And you will want to replace the front and back tire at the same time if switching tire styles.

By changing tire size, wont the speedometer show wrong speed if it is a different tire?

Do you really have to change both tires if changing tire styles? What will happen otherwise?

It will handle like shit. And if they are the original tires on your 2019, they are old and should be replaced anyway.

And not really. The size isn’t that much different.

You can stick to the stock sizes but your choices in sport oriented tires are much more limited.

Sorry not to be rude or anything but "not really" doesnt sound to comforting. I have heard that its harder to find tires if you stick with original tires.

I have driven around 4000 kilometers a year, is that much?

It also dont have to be sports tires but I want something different than original. I drive mostly in town or on freeways that have asphalt.

Your speedometer is already 3-5mph off depending on the speed from the factory. With a 160 profile it makes it 4-6mph off.

Then try a Bridgestone a41 in the stock size.

Ever though about the 17" wheel swap? Then you would have real tire choices, not to mention improved handling.

To expensive and I dont know how it would affect my bike when it is not made for having smaller tires

Lilltroll: I run the Bridgestone Battlax A41’s in the stock size. I am on my 3rd set and have no regretts. Once the current tires are used up I plan to change to the 160/60.
