What I really dislike about the Indian FTR 1200...

I've experimented with several - although Loydz is clearly the panacea. I'll probably stick it on the dyno and then if I change the exhaust, it'll without question be the Toce, so I'll contact Ryan at that point.

So weird. 6.30am this morning - ambient air temperature of 8°C, the thing ran perfectly from cold, no snatchiness, stalling or juddering - then so smoothly throughout my 28 mile commute, auto-blipping seamlessly on the downshift. The fuelling was perfect. No issues whatsoever. Yesterday, identical conditions, cut out twice when up to temperature. Bizarre.

I think that's a reference to the throttle blipping when downshifting. without a tune it's quite intense when you think you're slowing down the the bike auto blips the throttle and you speed up.
It's usually in synch and in time with the downshift - and something I instinctively do anyway - but you're absolutely right, the bike sometimes throws one in to make your day more interesting if it results in surging into a tight corners and situations.

I was not aware FTR did auto blipping, never had it on my bike, that's normally reserved for bikes with a quickshifter to aid the downshift on a closed throttle.

Absolutely - and you're right. IRC have a tried and tested unit.

Mine does it though...often randomly when it wants, but always on the downshift. Possibly fuelling issue/coincidental - but the ECU must surely be instructing it? I've read reports from other owners that it does it under braking. Significantly, this is also when it is prone to cutting out.

Mine was so bad when I got it…cutting out, blipping and racing forward, stalling at lights, cutting out around corners it was crap…I’ve said many times I was about to shove the thing up Indians ass. It was fucked. I told the dealer that this thing was gunna kill me or someone else. Worst bike I’ve ever owned off the showroom floor. But many tunes later and a an awesome TOCE exhaust and al la peanut butter sandwich it’s a fucken weapon….love it now…👍😎🇦🇺

Took me a single tune to eradicate all the quirks and foibles and whilst the TOCE is a lovely exhaust you don’t ‘need’ it as part of the package to achieve it!

I arrived very late to the tuning party having had my bike for 10 months. Yes the bike had quirks and foibles but I was reticent to spend any money getting it to run right. Max Cool and Ferraiolo1 were great advocates of the tuning services offered and we had differing opinions. I was wrong in my assumption the bike ran ok as it was! The bike was decatted at new from the off.

I eventually went with Fuelmoto USA and this was my first ever foray into the remote e-mail tuning service, I had always paid for dyno time and the use of a tuning specialist historically and mistakenly thought that was the best way to tune. The difference was profound.

If it is your intent to fit a TOCE Lloydz is your only choice. Both provide great service. Within three days of receiving my PV3 and downloading and sending off the files I received two maps to try. Fuelmoto also offer a lifetime map support so if you change anything with regards to emissions or have any issues you can 'Log' ride data send it to them and they will send you another map free of charge, but as stated they do not do TOCE.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply.

When I purchased the bike this spring, it was the first thing I did, remap. I had picked up on the bike's psychotic/bi-polar tendencies and temperament for the various test rides - even in that short time I notice the snatchy throttle, the erratic fuelling, the surging albeit no engine cut off and the extent of this varied between bikes. Problem was, I was immediately smitten by them and opted for a used machine I tried with only 500miles on the clock which seemed to have the most character. Talking to various dealers and staff at Indian UK, they had observed that each bike seemed to be individually nuanced. I also spoke to a guy at Morespeed Performance who was adamant the the ECU 'learns' which I contested and as far as I know this is not the case.

Obviously, a hi-flow exhaust, removed baffle and a link pipe is going to have implications in terms of back pressure and the fact that my bike sounds like an artillery round on the overrun dies point to the leaner fuelling that these bikes are afflicted with from stock. It wasn't too bad at first but knew that the fuelling could be improved and thus the performance. Having consulted with Dyno jet, they wrote me a custom map for free. I immediately noticed the difference, sharper more responsive, problem was, I stalled it four times in succession pulling off from cold so reverted to the unspecified tune that was already on the PV3 that came with the bike. I had my first cut out a few months later and now they have been becoming more frequent as has the surging. Stalled again today in traffic - so this evening after work, I uploaded the Dyno tune again and took her for a blast. Surging and blipping still there but the smoother yet more responsive throttle was immediately palpable. As for the cutting out, which is my main concern, time will tell. Given the member's testimonies on this invaluable resource/forum, I will likely opt for the Toce next year together with the Loydz tune. I was thinking a custom map/dyno time in the interim.

Incidentally, another thing I really like about this bike is the smooth transmission. It's possibly the best gearbox I've ever had on a motorcycle.

Thanks again for your reply.

No 'needling' intended but when Dynojet wrote you your custom map for free did you have to 'Log rides' and then send them the information for them to write you the tune? Just wondering what information they used to build you the tune. I would imagine doing it from scratch without the log files won't be any more effective than any other of the generic canned maps that get supplied from them.

I was sent two maps by Fuelmoto with the instructions to run each one for 100 miles and then load which one was best. 100 miles is nothing! I enjoyed the first map so much I kept it on for over 350 miles before curiosity got the better of me and I tried the second. With the first map I had slight over-fueling on high rev throttle shut downs which caused popping, personally I quite liked it. The second map was smoother still and has been on for the last year. I also adhered a sticker adjacent to the diagnostic port in the hope it will never get reflashed at the dealership inadvertently.
