Today is ANZAC Day, a very important day in Aus and NZ. we honour our fallen at dawn, and it's a public holiday.
Even though it's late April the weather today was brilliant so, as the hubby was working, I thought I'd take advantage of the good weather and get out on the FTR.
headed out the usual way: Houghton, Chain of Ponds, Gorge Rd through to Lobie.
then I apparently did a tour of South Australia's greatest roadworks. The stretch from Woodside to Hahndorf was nothing but 40-60kph straight lines with shitty roadworks the whole way. Ugh.
Finally got to Hahndorf and turned off towards Meadows only to find that literally every other car on the planet was going there too. Ugh.
BUT - it was all worth it when I got to Bull Creek Rd and the road cleared - I had the whole run from Meadows to Ashborne all to myself. and it was magnificent.
Headed through to Victor via Mt Compass, and stopped for a yiros.
Thought the best thing to do was park next to the Harleys.

From there, headed to Delamere and once again the road was empty. Joy!!!
After turning right at the servo, I did encounter a little traffic but thankfully the overtaking areas were clear.
Stopped at the memorial for the Hobart I and II to nab a photo appropriate for Anzac Day.

From there, continued on home. The section from Aldinga to Seaford Rise is currently awful (and yay, more roadworks) but you can see that once it's done, it will be a much better section of road as everything will be 2 lanes up and back.
No dramas on the way home, was a reasonably good ride given the amount of traffic.
For those keen on the route, here you go: Relive 'ANZAC Day ride.'

Tried riding it to work yesterday, the car that pulled out in front of me had other ideas... Luckily it was relatively low speed and I got away with bruising and swelling on my left hand, plus some aches and pains today. Bike superficially looked ok, but headers, muffler, radiator, lh fork and various pegs and levers took a bashing. Bars aren't straight either.. Glad I was wearing my full ppe though.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride! Me and a couple other people (over 1,000 riders) decided to go for a short ride (all five boroughs of New York) and stop for a little lunch in Chelsea (shut down multiple streets of the meatpacking district). I think close to a quarter million dollars was raised today for charity!
