Second Bike in Stable for Longer Distances?

I would like to hear how many of you have another ride (or more) in your stable. I love the FTR and 90% of my rides are 1.5 hours or less. However, I have friends wanting to do some longer distance rides so I am considering adding a larger cruiser. I have 2 other bikes but both are smaller displacement so I may try to sell them and add a 2nd Indian to my stable. I'm not a fan of the full dressers but am warming up to something like the Springfield Dark Horse. Does anyone have similar thoughts or experiences on this topic?

It depends how far you're going to travel and for how long? I have another bike that I use for longer trips. I do not like the idea of baggers or anything with a lot of hard luggage on. I pack carefully always using older clothing that can be worn, used to clean the bike if required then thrown in the trash. You can travel relatively light and your load gets lighter. My two bikes are at opposite ends of the spectrum and I love them for completely different reasons. They're both V-Twins but that's where any similarity realistically ends.

I'm the same as Max - my other bike is a small 600cc naked.
strangely has a similar fuel range haha.
i've ridden it to the Philip Island GP via the Great Ocean Rd, luggage was just clothes so no real issue with storage just a backpack and my other half had a luggage rack at the time.
when we get round to doing a long trip on the FTR i'll pop the luggage rack on and should be fine.

Fjr. Or if you want a great bike for under 4K. A fz1. I’m going to grab another one for touring.

No large cruiser for me, my other bike is actually smaller and more nimble than the FTR...

Nice looking Husky!

Moi? Well, I'm more of a backroads burner. When the weather gets nice (it's still kind of rainy and cold here [especially in the morning - the low 30s to low 40s] and we had snow flurries last week!), my FTR1200 will be my main wheels to and from work. It's a 50 mile round trip commute to and from work, and unless I'm running short of time in the morning part of the commute, I do all of my commute on back roads. I work some pretty long hours, so when the weekend comes, I typically just vedge out - riding several hundred miles is not in the cards for me. Besides, I live in an apartment building, and only have room for one motorcycle.

Oh cool!! An old XS750!! I haven't seen one of those (nor an XS850) in quite some time. When I was younger, I wanted one of those, but being in high school and college, the money wasn't there for one, combined with a father, who basically said "not under my roof! you're gonna race it!", so it was not in the cards. Dad wouldn't even hear of me having a leftover '82 Suzuki GS550T, or a Honda 450 Nighthawk (both of which I had the money for), as a 19 year old college student living at home back in 1983, saying that I was even going "to race them." So, I kept on plodding along on my Honda XL250R. I love my dad (R.I.P.), but his mega redneck mentality shone like a neon sign, when it came to motorcycles (or as he called them - "motorsackles"). When I was older, and told him I really preferred something sporty for motorcycles, and he said, "why not get a Sportster?" I was like "what??" His line of thought was that since it was called a "Sportster", it was a sporty motorcycle. Okaaayyyy dad.

Nothing wrong with that bike, all that matters is whether you enjoy riding it. Good luck with the next one, lots of great options out there👍

That is nothing to be embarrassed about. My 2nd Bike in Iowa is a smaller BMW G 310 GS (otherwise known as the "baby GS"). Obviously it's not for longer rides but at 374 pounds is for easier loading and unloading to take on short adventure rides. (A big GS would certainly do the trick for long rides as was mentioned in an earlier post). My 3rd ride is a Yamaha SCR950. This was a one year wonder that I picked up new dirt cheap. Not really good for longer rides either but is also a good solid bike for that 1-2 hour stretch. FTR and BMW.png201808 Yamaha SCR950.jpg. It is not really for

I never heard of the SCR, did a quick FB market place search, there are tons of dealer left overs for $5k seems like a great little bike for the money.

Probably sold as well as the FTR currently is.
