RPM limiter

I used the search function here and found nothing. It appears the RPM limit is different in each gear? The spec in the manual simply states 9000 RPM but my observation was 8400 in first and I think 8700 in second. I come from old muscle bikes and am not used to a limiter and am not accustomed to NOT having a big bold tachometer and a bright orange needle to keep an eye on. That limit comes quick in first! Also what RPM is ideal to be at when you know your gonna have to roll race someone coming up to you? I know the big V Twin torque means no need to rev but there is still a sweet spot for the most forward push power. I think its about 44700-5000 RPM. What say you? Not all those sport bikes are 150hp plus Gixxers and 200hp R1s- so the FTR will hold its own against the squids on bikes with similar power output to the FTR. But I wanna be ready and not lugging in a low RPM and not hitting that brick wall limiter.

5k rpm and above is where to sit ready for afterburner in my experience. Believe that’s also about where torque starts to peak…I haven’t noticed the different redlines in different gears. Will pay attention next time I’m out.

Nope. It’s 9k in all gears.
And peak tq is around 5k

Castcrankyguy, sounds like you have the base model, yes? if so, you are limited to standard mode unless you equip with the S&S aftermarket module that tapes into the riding modes. The S models sport modes allows you to turn off the electronic nannies that may be kicking in when the cpu thinks you are pushing too hard.

Thanks fellas. Yes I do have the base model. Maybe Ill eventually check into a tune or ECU reprogramming to raise the RPM limiter but in the meantime I cannot believe how this FTR1200 makes My old reliable 1983 Suzuki GS1100E feel so slow!
