Akro Rubber Plug alternative

I'm a new owner of a '22 FTR Champ Edition and I LOVE it. I've found a ton of good info on here (thank you everyone) so I thought I'd share my take on removing the Akro DB killers. I didn't like the idea of a $20 rubber plug to match the factory Akro one so I chose a different route. A 8mm RivNut and a M8 Titanium bolt in the original factory hole and the rubber plug to the new hole and I'm quite pleased with the result! Pic attached and anyone that's even halfway thinking of removing them do it! It's the way the bike should be from the factory (and would be if CARB and the EU Emissions didnt' exist).

I just went ahead and ordered the plugs, planning on taking the baffles out tomorrow. It's a bummer to have to drill into such a beautiful exhaust but it'll be worth it I'm sure.

Hi, just got my FTR and I’m thinking of doing this mod. Did it make the exhaust much louder? Thanks

Definitely louder but not obnoxious. I really feel like it's the way Akropovic designed the pipe as it sounds exactly like you'd expect it. You can always do it and if you don't like the sound put them back in! I was all set on replacing them with an S&S but after the baffle removal I actually like the sound better. Plus I spent some time in Slovenia so it reminds me of it every time I get on the bike!:)

Yes, but not obnoxiously loud. Although, that's subjective and I'm half deaf.
My wife said it was too quiet with the baffles. I agreed and obliged. Go for it! 👍🏼

Well I went and done it…. My god it sounds so much better, thought I had a grin on my chops before!!
Took all of 20 minutes and that was even taking the muffler off to tap out the sssshh bit out.
Everyone with an FTR should do this!

That looks better than using two extra plugs.

Do you happen to remember the exact sizes of the rivnut and bolt?
