Got my 2-2 on the other week

Yeah it was a little annoying but hey, nothing worth doing isn't, so there. Broke one of the supplied clamps, supposed to be 35 ft/lbs but it snapped the bolt well before that, no big deal just reused the stock slip-on clamp.

As soon as I got my tune I took it out in the cold and man, it sounds great! Though I think my dreams of a fender delete are dashed now, really hate my turn signals being so low, lots of tailgaters where I live. The bike pulls a ever so slightly to the right now, probably because the weight is less centered, probably just going to counteract that with the side bag. Might have to also look into different foot pegs, really leaning into left handers is certainly weird now with the different positioning of my right leg.

Already wrapped the headers but I definitely have to wrap the muffler inlets too, might even brainstorm a few more ideas on how to keep the heat down (big calves); any ideas guys?

All that being said, totally worth it.

Upgrade the thin insulation under the heat shields. This is what I used;

Lynn Manufacturing Kaowool... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZQPC43B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Its REALLY thick but it does work better I believe. I also had mine cerakoted which is supposed to cut down on heat transmission but I mainly did it so that the shields would be black.

The NRC tail tidy still fits with this exhaust and you can mount the turn signals high. Reference my bike for pics. https://ftr1200forums.com/threads/charliemurphays-ftr.1051/#post-15615

It’s definitely form over function but I LOVE the form lol.

No regerts going to this exhaust.

The heat was a real problem for me too. I solved this by taking off the end caps and drilling/knocking out the Cats, (one in each pipe) made a huge difference. I also don’t agree on this « form over function » narrative, often put forward by people who have never tried this exhaust setup. Looks great, sounds great, and only a small minority of people could even notice a tiny reduction in hp. If we were all that bothered in performance figures, we’d have bought a TuonoV4 and kept the change??

Ha haaa my thoughts exactly, it's got what my brother and I like to call "usable power". Haven't noticed the reduction; even then, it's still faster than the modded scout I used to own.

That was my line of thinking, although I may try out some aluminum shielding tape first, just to see if I can avoid the minor nuisance of working with fibrous materials again. It might also help if I get a replacement bolt for the last heat shield on the bottom (S&S kindly forgot to include one) because that's really the only one that gives my leg issues, and I figure it's resting directly on the mounting bracket for it.

As for the NRC tail tidy: Love the look of it, have considered it, but I'm 99% positive it would get me a slap on the wrist haha.

Some of the issues I ran into while doing the install made me rethink my choice a few times but man, as soon as I hit the starter switch.......

To reduce the heat effects to the right bum / thigh you can place the adhesive tape with aluminium foil under the existing heat shield.....will help.
I sell that for my company to some german car and motorcycle producer.

It's 100% form over function. I have used three different exhaust systems on two different FTRs. The S&S system is by far the coolest looking no doubt. With considerably smaller diameter and shorter length headers it will never make the power numbers or have the torque delivery of the stock system let alone a Toce or Akrapovic setup. That in itself disappointed me because I think the power curve and response is nice with the S&S possibly better than stock for the slow speed, slippery bush riding I bought #2 for. It's just terrible for standing or dabbing which I do a lot of in those situations. It forces the leg away from the bike which makes holding on hard and stopping with the right leg down painful, I have more than enough burns already.
So I threw it on my precious that gets ridden on dry roads, nowhere near gravel. It looks fantastic in my lounge, where it's form trumps function.

So looks yes, nothing better!
Power, neither here nor there.
Ergos, big nope!

Completely understand where your coming from off road. To be honest I’d never considered that, never been off road on the FTR, got a cheap Montesa to throw at the trees.
I could see how Ergos would then become a problem, I was referring to tarmac only. 👍🏻

A coworker of mine has this exhaust on his FTR, and his first remark was "I have a permanent burn mark on my right calf"....

My take on this if they functioned well the factory would have fitted them. The poor designers ( hi Rich :) ) are on a hiding to nothing, lets build a street going replica of an FTR750, now lets make it so every muppet can ride it and not sue us, hmmmm.

Me too. But not from the FTR1200, the Indian Chief is the culprit!

Note to oneself. It might be summer, but stop riding the Chief with shorts on.
