Where did you ride your FTR today?

Just getting back to my computer now...

Rode almost 550 miles this weekend to camp with the fam. Started in Longmont, CO. Camped in Big Meadows Reservoir...properly and socially distanced, of course. Very fortunately, the fam was able to go in the mom-obile and long before I left work.

This is more of a "where am I going to ride my FTR Today?" post - to work! It's 5:30 am, and I'm getting ready for work, and my first ride commute of the season (work is 25 miles from home - all of it freeway, or back roads riding). Finally temps aren't cold, when I leave for work. It's actually a bit on the warm side - 71F (22C), and with the high humidity (just shy of 70%), a bit on the sticky side. It's only going to get warmer, which means that even with wearing my full face helmet, and nice, mesh riding jacket (complete with elbow, shoulder, and back armor), my sport riding gloves, and a backpack on my back (for my lunch, and any groceries I may feel like picking up at a supermarket, that's located on the route I take home), I'm going to bake on the ride home, since it's supposed to be about 92F (33C), with humidity as high, or higher than it is now. Oh well, I'm just glad to be able to get some mileage on the bike.

I live in an apertment building that's just off of the freeway (I-894), and I'm already hearing the Harleys droning past on the freeway. I usually ride the back roads, but it's kind of a hassle to get to them (about 4 miles of city streets), so as I've done so often when heading to work, I'll gas the bike up first, then head out on the freeway for part of the commute, to save time (fewer traffic lights to deal with), getting off on a county highway a couple of miles south of the county line, in Racine County (I work in one of the suburbs of Racine, WI), and using back roads for the remainder of the commute. The ride home will be in reverse, with the exception, that it will exclusively be on back roads (some of which are kind of winding - nice!!), due to the freeway being such a pain to ride on during rush hour (I can't stand the occasional stop & go aspect [clutch in, clutch out - again, and again, ugh!], and I don't feel like jousting with cars due to the high density of vehicle traffic, that rush hour has). Besides, unlike Cruiser Rider, and The Squid (on his 4 cylinder 600, or 1000 supersport), I didn't buy a sporty bike, for freeway droning. By the time I put the bike away for the day, I will have ridden about 51 miles. If the weather is really nice, I occasionally take "the long way home", by heading west via the backroads, into Walworth, and Waukesha Counties, before I turn east, and head home - this easily adds 40 miles to my trip home, to the tune of a 65 mile plus trip. Well, enough writing - I'd better get going.

I forgot to mention - if the weather is decent, I typically log about 200 - 250 miles of commuting a week on my motorcycle. It becomes my main set of wheels in the summer.

Took a nice ride today on my 77‘ XS-750 and my Indian. I did 40 miles on the Yamaha and 35 miles on the Indian. Pictures are of Yamaha in front of my favorite golf course - Scenic Valley and the Indian in front of Rolling Green golf course. Tomorrow no motorcycles - playing golf with my regular Tuesday group at Butler’s golf course!

That Yam is stunning...………...goes without saying for the FTR obviously :)

Took mine out for her maiden voyage a few weeks ago up to Sedona, AZ. Back when she was stock and pre-carbon tanks.

This is our first weekend in the “green” zone in Western Pennsylvania. Bars and restaurants are aloud to reopen with some restrictions. (50% occupancy, six foot separation at the bar, tables spaced out six feet apart, etc.) I swung by the Tiki Bar. It was open but not as crowded as usual. No live band today just a DJ. No bar stool seating. Must wear masks when ordering at the bar and not nearly as many bikes as usual. But there was still a descent crowd all things considered......Once again I was the only FTR in the lot. There was a nice Indian Scout parked two bike down from me.....

Just got back from the first Thursday bike night at Tiki Bar. They are finially aloud to have live bands again but no sitting at the bar yet just the picnic tables. Six Indians tonight. My FTR, two Scouts, one Roadmaster and two Vintages. Nice crowd and tons of Harleys. Very few Japanese or European sport bikes.

Not today but two weeks ago I took the FTR to Austria to catch some curves in the mountains. We made about 2000 kilometers in temperatures from zero to 30 degrees without any problems (beside all known issues that can be fixed with a tune). The Moto is still stock, has been proofed reliable and will now receive some customizing :).

Looks like the road from a James Bond movie I have stored in my brain somewhere! (Goldfinger)

From a global perspective that is all really close together (300km in the real life) :) . The Bond Scene was filmed on the Furkapass on the Swiss side of the alps. The whole region offers a lot of such roads. But while the Swiss and Austrian cops can make it a very expensive ride, you get the most fun of it on the Italian side of the alps  .
