If you cane the arse out of the bike it goes well,, but if you’re actually just commuting it doesn’t like it ,,
Sooo.. what have they done..
Have they set the bloody bike up for the track or for commuting well it doesn’t seem like that because it doesn’t like the bike stalls ..
I was actually riding it and excuse my expression,, like a grandma upshifting 45000rpm and stalls on me at low, between 2–1st
I did a lot of tests on the old software vs new software.
i found that the new software was 'better' but it still got cold stalls etc.
whereas when I went back to the old software and popped my tune from Ryan at Lloydz back on?
hasn;t stalled once and runs beautifully.

Seems that the verdict has been adjudicated on the new software from Indian is an improvement but it’s got a very long way to go ..
It seems that the path of nongenuine software flashes is the way to go ..
It looks like I need to buy a dino jet PV three a muck around with it myself to get it right ..
But the issue is it’s a factory problem and I shouldn’t be showing out my own hard earned cash to do this ..
Before I bought this bike site unseen I was thinking based on its specs it would be an animal just like my old 2005 Aprilia Tuono and it’s actually an exhilarating ride if we can fix these bloody bugs which potentially can be dangerous ..
I’ve emailed Polaris tech/warranty support.
Let’s see how they handle this...
I’m at a loss.. 😔

Aleko,

Putting the above comments into perspective:

You already know what the resolution is.

Yes it is a factory problem and there have been several who have taken the 'Point of Principle Stance' that one should not be expected to shell out your own extra money to get the bike running how you wanted it to out of the crate. The Mothership can do nothing to help you and e-mailing them or expecting your dealership to pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat is a complete waste of time. One forum member got a bike swapped like for like and another forum member ditched Indian and moved onto a different bike altogether because of similar issues.

You mentioned about doing some kind of 'cat conversion' if you think it runs sh1t now wait til you've messed with the exhaust/cat without a tune. A remap for you seems an inevitability anyway? Irrespective, without shelling out your hard earned money on a tune from one of the two reputable tuners you will never know how good your FTR could have been? Fuel Moto would be your best route with the AH2 Software unless you want to ship your ECU halfway across the Globe? Your choice!

Good luck in your quest.

In today’s day and age and that kind of money we spend on these bikes we shouldn’t have to be spending a few thousand dollars to get it right ..

Agree partly but emissions legislation has a very BIG part to play in all this......Nevertheless:

But it's nowhere near a few thousand? With import taxes, custom duty, shipping etc. and a K & N filter (which wasn't available in the UK at that time) it cost me in the UK ordering from Fuel Moto USD $681 delivered to my door at today's exchange rate. Anything above that price to make it 'a few thousand' are purely both cosmetic and personal choices.

It's like those that profess their bikes run perfectly as standard who are they really trying to fool but themselves? I was one of them!

I was very late to the tuning party having ditched the cat on day one and not got a tune until some 10 months later. I also thought mine ran ok as standard. The difference is phenomenal and money well spent. Especially as I was reticent about spending so much money on something nobody would be able to see or touch. It was also my first foray into remote tuning!

Thank you for your insight it seems that I need to do a bit more digging around for a silution because I do like the bike and I know it has immense potential. It's just insulting so early in my bike's ownership that I need to Shell out to money to make it run better lmfao.

No worries Aleko,

You just need to 'bite the bullet' and do now what you're most likely going to do later anyway and unleash your FTR's true potential.(y)

Like K9F, and with a great deal of help from him, I too was a reluctant member of the Fuel Moto club. I do understand the absolute reluctance and anger when having to spend good cash to resolve what is a manufacturing problem, but I guess the problem stems from trying to run large capacity performance V-twins with todays greener than green emissions rules. I justified the re-mapping of my bike by telling myself I wanted rid of the cat and therefore needed a tweak on the fuelling, but in reality I was again really just addressing an issue with the stock bike.
The one thing I can say, hand on heart, its the best thing I've done (again, thanks to K9F). You could argue that the bike is now just what it should have been from the start and you would probably be correct, but it is the bike I wanted now, and I'm having such a blast riding it, I am more than happy to ignore Indian's short comings and just relish my next outing on a hoot of a bike.

Do you know what version? This is the version that the Indian dealer installed for me.

MAS4A6.AP1951A 08.

IMHO, it works as well or better than the Fuel Moto map.

FTR-S1_NCT_2.0_R1.djt

It was what I recorded when the dealer loaded the map. It was what I was told.

Can I view what my existing map is?

I wasn't privy to the operation, but I know the plug that Fuel Moto uses was not involved. It loaded a lot quicker too.

MAS4A6.AP1951A is last years dasboard software (spring 2020). This years is MAS4A6.AP2104A, from March 2021.

These are not tunes or ecu software.

Thanks for the clarification. Do you know what the difference is between the two dashboard software is? Should I be asking them to install it (if we ever get out of Covid lock down)?
